Kate creates luxury bespoke and ready-made original contemporary accessories and homewares by hand in her studio.
With a commitment to quality and value, her designs are created on a hand-powered domestic knitting machine, using carefully sourced yarns mainly spun and dyed in the British Isles from finest natural fibres.
Originally inspired by her mother's passion for making things - knitting, weaving, spinning yarn and experimenting with vegetable dyes, Kate was particularly fascinated by knitting and completed a Knitwear Degree at Nottingham Trent. She set up her own business soon after graduating.
What Kate loves most about the knitting process is the fact that the design is created in its entirety from selecting the texture and colour of the yarn, whether it's a cashmere, lambswool or alpaca, handworking the fabric on the knitting machine into the desired style and shape, often weaving in another yarn for added intricacy, to handfinishing and embellishing added detail into the piece. It is the whole creative process of concept through to realisation that is compelling.
Experimenting on the knitting machine with new yarns and techniques never fails to excite and can spark a new flow of ideas. A fascination with the past also triggers new ideas, whether vintage clothing and antique textiles, old films and photographs or design and architecture.
Kate's aim is to produce timeless designs of lasting quality, which become like old friends in your home and wardrobe that you will want to keep and treasure forever, taking inspiration from vintage pieces combined with a contemporary edge for a relaxed easy feel. Attention to detail and the addition of original vintage buttons add a one-off unique and high-quality finish.
Kate recently relocated from London to Margate, where the incredible natural light, coastal textures and ever-changing seascape provide a rich source of inspiration for her creative practice.
